Launching in the DMV — Coming Nationwide
BLKMD connects Black and brown patients with Black and brown doctors — because representation in healthcare isn't a preference. It's a health outcome.
Unconscious attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions without our awareness. In healthcare, implicit bias leads physicians to underestimate pain, dismiss symptoms, and deliver measurably worse care to Black and brown patients — often without ever realizing it.
Black patients are systematically undertreated for pain relative to White patients, even when they present with the same conditions. Physicians with higher implicit bias scores show the greatest disparities in pain treatment.
Patients who see a physician of the same race are more likely to receive recommended preventive care, report higher satisfaction, and rate their physician as more participatory in shared decision-making.
Race concordance between patients and physicians is associated with greater patient trust, better communication, and significantly higher rates of completing preventive screenings — including those for cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Compared to other groups. The good news? Together, we can close this gap.

— BLKMD Core Values
BLKMD is a healthcare platform built to connect Black and brown patients with Black and brown doctors. We believe that finding a physician who shares your background, understands your culture, and takes your concerns seriously should not be a matter of luck. We're building the infrastructure to make that a reality — starting in the DMV and expanding nationwide.
Yes. Searching for a doctor on BLKMD will always be free for patients. Our mission is access — we will never put a paywall between you and finding the care you deserve.
Once we launch, you'll be able to search by ZIP code or city, filter by specialty, insurance accepted, and whether a doctor is currently accepting new patients. Every profile includes credentials, practice details, and cultural background — so you can make an informed choice before you ever pick up the phone.
We're launching first in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia — the DMV. This is where our roots are, and where we have the strongest network of physicians ready to serve. Nationwide expansion is the plan. Join the waitlist and we'll notify you the moment we're live in your area.
We're launching with Primary Care, OB/GYN, Mental Health, Cardiology, and Pediatrics — the specialties where the gap in representation is most felt. More specialties will be added as the network grows. If there's a specialty you need and don't see, tell us — your voice shapes what we build next.
Absolutely. We take your privacy seriously. Your information is stored securely and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing. We collect only what's necessary to connect you with the right care. You can read our full privacy policy for the details.
The research is clear: patients who see physicians who share their racial or cultural background report higher satisfaction, better communication, and improved health outcomes. Black Americans experience 74,000 more preventable deaths annually than their counterparts. A significant part of that gap is rooted in systemic distrust and lack of access to culturally competent care. Representation is not symbolic — it saves lives.
Fill out the doctor interest form on this page. We'll review your information and follow up with everything you need to know about joining, your profile setup, and our launch timeline. We're building this network carefully — every physician in the directory is vetted so patients can trust who they find.
Founding network physicians who join during our pre-launch period will be listed at no cost. We're committed to making sure the barrier to join is as low as possible for the doctors our community needs most. Future pricing details will be shared as we approach launch — early partners will always be taken care of.
Patients who are actively seeking a physician who looks like them, understands their lived experience, and will take their concerns seriously. These are engaged, motivated patients who have often been underserved by the existing system. They're not just looking for a doctor — they're looking for a doctor they can trust. That's exactly who you went into medicine to serve.
BLKMD is built specifically to amplify Black and brown physicians. Our network is centered on doctors who are part of the communities we serve. If you are a Black or brown medical professional who shares our mission, we want you in the network.
We're in pre-launch now, actively building the network and refining the platform. DMV launch is the immediate goal. The more doctors and patients who join the waitlist, the faster we move. If you're a physician reading this — your joining is one of the most impactful things you can do to accelerate the launch.
Your profile will include your photo, credentials, specialties, practice location, accepted insurance, languages spoken, and whether you're currently accepting new patients. We're designing every profile to be clean, professional, and trust-building — because your first impression with a new patient starts before they ever walk through your door.
Use the contact form on this site and our team will get back to you directly. We read every message. This is personal for us — we're not a faceless corporation, we're a team that believes in this mission as deeply as you do.
